Like most things in life, concepts are easy but doing is the hard part. It is the same with being a “Trusted Advisor” to your clients if you are a traditionally trained technology sales or marketing person.

All of your suggestions are passive ways to share information (article, blogs, etc.) but your example (your daughter’s process) was active conversation. While your suggestion to share information can lay a foundation for trust, one important caveat begs for presenting: oversharing of expertise via telling can be perceived as arrogant or insensitive. When the advisor talks more than he listens sharing his fund of knowledge,the listener is stuck with two choices; interrupt or tolerate the droning. Either choice in unpalatable. So the warning is this: share but be judicious. Listening is also a basic foundation of trust.
